Fifty-Nine Weeks and Really Excited about Sixty

Greetings from jolly ole England -- an interesting week having just passed.

We started off the week with a greeting from our family history supervisor.  His greeting said you've got a traffic ticket to take care of.  It's interesting as to how they do it here.  You never see very many police, just cameras.  So the noticed showed our car's license the fact that we had not cleared the intersection.  It starts off as a $100 fine and goes up if it's not paid in the first fourteen days.  Obviously we went out on the internet on Monday and paid it.  However, it was paid under protest because we didn't know there was any such rule here.  Oh well, when you have lot's of money like us, what's a hundred here or there :0

Other than the exciting news just shared, we've pretty well done what we do every week.  We've worked at the Family History Centre in London at The National Archives.  Elder Smart continues to help train the other senior missionary couples. Sister Smart fills in for the one being trained.  Elder Smart does evaluation of future records to be digitized and Sister Smart does research to help some of the senior missionaries in the mission office.  We have both been busy trying to set up appointments with priesthood leaders to train and help.

We did some home teaching this past week and this week we're going to try to do some visiting teaching prior to the arrival of our daughters, Velynn and Rachelle.  They should arrive this Thursday and we are so looking forward to seeing them again.  We haven't seen anyone from home since Kathie visited us last September.

We also look forward to attending the temple this weekend.  One of the students in our temple preparation class is going through the temple on Friday evening for the first time.  He and his wife will then journey to Preston, where they will be sealed on Saturday.  Unfortunately Preston is out of our mission and we will not be able to attend the sealing.  However, we're really excited for them.  They are a wonderful couple and deserve all the blessings that come from an eternal marriage.

Guess that's about it for this week.  Except we would like to tell you all about how beautiful spring is around here.  There are flowers all over everywhere.  The daffodils are in full bloom.  We've never seen so many flowering trees.  Lawns a pretty and green.  Cut back rose bushes are starting to grow.  In our complex, each of the trees have daffodils, crocus and other flowers blooming around the bases.  Oh, almost forgot to say the ice cream vendor was out this afternoon.  Now if that isn't a sure sign of spring, we don't know what is.  Did we say that this a truly great time of year?  Guess it'll be that way at home as well.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Sure do love you all and hope that things are going well for each of you.  We know that the gospel is true. We have a strong testimony of prayer and pray for you daily.  Happy anniversary this week to Andrew and Jessilyn.  Happy birthday this weekend to Spencer.

Love and best wishes,

Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad, Sister and Elder Smart, Annie and Paul

  1. Dear Elder "Paul" and Sister Smart,

Greetings from the FHL in SLC. This is Stan Lindaas. I have enjoyed reading your blog posts. My wife, Raquel, and I were in England for the first time a year ago. Mostly we were in Kent and Somerset but, we did get to the London Temple. While there we each thought that serving a mission in England is very high on our preference list. Your blog posts have only served to magnify that feeling.

I am am still busy researching for clients and teaching classes to visiting groups at the Plaza Hotel. One of the groups, Road Scholars formerly "Elder Hostel" used to conduct genealogical tours in the UK for US participants. Road Scholars has asked me to ressurect the UK tours. As you may remember, I am not a British researcher and as I stated above, last year was my first trip to the UK. So, I have been relying on the knowladge and experience of our may friends in the British Refeference Unit here at the FHL.

I am planning a trip to London in mid April to become some what familiar with the KEW and to visit with hotels and tour companies as part of planning for proposed tours.

May I visit with you while I am there. I need help understanding what may be availible in the way of collection access; instruction about the holdings and research strategies;and anything else which will inhance the tour participant's research experience.

Thank you so much for any counsel you can offer.

    Kind regars,

    Stan and Rocky Lindaas
